We are learning to draw stories with illustrations that tell the reader about our reaction to an event. In order to do this, we are learning to draw emotions through facial expressions. We carefully observed photos that represent different feelings and noticed the eyes, eyebrows, cheeks and mouth. After, we practiced drawing faces showing different emotions we might experience. Check out our work!

Learning How to Draw People
This week we learned how to draw people during our writing workshop time. This is an important foundational skill that we hope will build confidence in our students as they learn that they are authors and illustrators and that their pictures can tell a story. After drawing shapes like squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, and ovals, we learned to use those shapes to draw people and homes. Here are some examples of our work:

Kindergarten Hopes and Dreams
2016-2017
During our first few days of school, we discussed our biggest hopes and dreams for kindergarten. We learned that in order for these hopes and dreams to come true, we needed to establish rules so that every child would have a safe and comfortable environment where they can flourish emotionally and academically. Below are the three rules or expectations we've been practicing:
1. Follow teacher directions
2. Keep your body safe
3. Be respectful
At home, you best support us by reminding your child of these expectations. Thank you for all that you do to support our learning environment at school!
